This recipe makes delicious, juicy burgers that are perfect for a summer weekend cookout. They are simple enough for a weeknight meal but have a slow-baked quality that elevates the flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef, 80% lean
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 4 lettuce leaves

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to combine.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  5. Transfer the patties to a baking sheet and top each with a slice of cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns in the oven for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with tomato slices, lettuce leaves, and the top bun.
