Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 3/4 cup warm milk (around 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg, plus 1 for egg wash
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Flaky sea salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 leaves lettuce
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- Olive oil, for greasing
Method
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add warm milk and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Add softened butter and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces, shape into balls, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another hour.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the risen buns with egg wash and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Let cool.
- For the patties, mix ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Form into 4 patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side for medium doneness. Add cheese slices during the last minute of cooking.
- Assemble the burgers by slicing the cooled brioche buns in half. Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, the cooked patties, and any additional desired toppings.
