Classic Soft Snickerdoodles

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, for rolling
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, for rolling

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 3/4 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and the ground cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough into 1.5-inch balls and then roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat.
  8. Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are set and the tops have cracked.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
