Classic French Apple Galette
This French apple galette is the perfect way to enjoy the crisp, sweet flavors of autumn. With its rustic charm and simple preparation, this dessert is ideal for a leisurely weekend baking project. Using a store-bought puff pastry keeps it beginner-friendly, while a touch of specialty apple butter gives it an extra layer of flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly
- 2 tablespoons apple butter
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar, for sprinkling
Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to an approximately 12-inch circle. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
- Spread the apple butter evenly over the center of the pastry, leaving a 2-inch border.
- Arrange the apple slices over the apple butter, slightly overlapping each slice in a circular pattern.
- Sprinkle the apples with granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, then dot with small cubes of butter.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over the apples, pleating as necessary to create a rustic border.
- Brush the pastry edges with the beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
