Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs
This classic spaghetti and meatballs recipe is ideal for a relaxing weekend when you have time to let flavors meld beautifully. Baked in the oven, it’s a satisfying meal that brings everyone to the kitchen.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cans (14 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 pound spaghetti
- Fresh basil, for garnish
Method
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, egg, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until browned.
- While meatballs are baking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes, then add baked meatballs to the sauce. Simmer for another 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Serve the spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce. Garnish with fresh basil.
